Ding Xuexiang Attends Opening of 4th China International Supply Chain Expo and Delivers Keynote Speech

Posted on 22 06 202624 06 2026 by Editor

Summary

On 22 June 2026, the 4th China International Supply Chain Expo opened in Beijing. Ding Xuexiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended and delivered a keynote speech. Ding noted that the current global situation is complex and volatile, with increasing risks of fragmentation in industrial and supply chains.

As a responsible major country, China effectively leverages its comprehensive industrial system and ultra-large market to firmly maintain the stability and smoothness of global industrial and supply chains. He emphasised that global supply chains, industrial chains and value chains are closely interconnected, and maintaining their stability requires joint efforts from all parties. He put forward four suggestions: strengthen mutual trust to prevent politicisation, weaponisation and securitisation of economic and trade issues; strengthen trade facilitation to uphold the multilateral trading system and oppose protectionism; strengthen integrated development to deeply integrate innovation chains with industrial and supply chains to create mutually beneficial industrial ecosystems; and strengthen resource sharing to maintain an open and connected global energy market and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in critical minerals.

Afterwards, Ding declared the expo open. South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

Commentary

For New Zealand SME owners, China's reaffirmation of its commitment to maintaining stable global supply chains could mean a more predictable trading environment. The four suggestions put forward by Ding Xuexiang — particularly opposing protectionism and promoting trade facilitation — may help reduce non-tariff barriers SMEs face when exporting to China, such as inspection and quarantine standards or customs clearance efficiency. Meanwhile, China's emphasis on 'integrated development' and 'resource sharing' may create more cooperation channels in fields such as food and agricultural products.

New Zealand SMEs can pay attention to procurement and matchmaking opportunities brought by the expo. However, geopolitical risks should be noted: if Sino-US relations deteriorate or key areas of supply chains (e.g. technology) are restricted, SMEs may face indirect impacts. Overall, in the short term, the expo provides a platform for brand exposure and business networking for SMEs; in the long term, attention should be paid to specific implementation measures of policies, such as whether there will be industry-specific supply chain programmes.

Looking ahead, China's supply chain resilience policies may direct more resources towards sustainable and digital areas, and New Zealand SMEs can prepare for relevant certifications or technology cooperation in advance.

Commentary in Chinese |
