Ding Xuexiang Attends Opening Ceremony of Fourth China International Supply Chain Expo, Delivers Keynote Speech

Posted on 22 06 202624 06 2026 by Editor

Summary

On 22 June 2026, the fourth China International Supply Chain Expo opened in Beijing. Ding Xuexiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended and delivered a keynote speech. Ding stated that the current world situation is complex and volatile, with increasing risks of fragmentation in industrial and supply chains.

President Xi Jinping pointed out that maintaining the resilience and stability of global industrial and supply chains is crucial for promoting world economic development. As a responsible major country, China effectively leverages its complete industrial system and ultra-large market to smooth the operation of the world economy, resolutely safeguarding the stability and smoothness of global supply chains. He emphasised that global supply chains, industrial chains, and value chains are closely interconnected, and every country is a link in the chain of cooperation.

Maintaining stability and smoothness requires joint efforts from all parties. He put forward four proposals: first, strengthen mutual trust to prevent politicisation, weaponisation, and over-securitisation of economic and trade issues; second, strengthen trade facilitation, uphold and practise true multilateralism, and oppose protectionism in the name of green and low-carbon; third, strengthen integrated development to deeply integrate innovation chains with industrial and supply chains; fourth, strengthen resource sharing to actively maintain the openness, connectivity, and stable operation of the global energy market, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation and peaceful use of critical minerals. Subsequently, Ding declared the expo open.

South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile and heads of the International Chamber of Commerce and other organisations attended and delivered remarks.

Commentary

Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang's keynote speech at the Global Supply Chain Expo sent a strong signal of China's commitment to multilateralism and opposition to trade protectionism. For New Zealand small and medium-sized enterprises, such macro commitments can translate into tangible business benefits. On one hand, China, as New Zealand's largest trading partner, its pledge to maintain supply chain stability and smoothness means greater reliability in logistics and customs clearance for exports of primary products such as dairy, meat, and fruit, reducing non-economic disruptions due to political frictions and providing a more predictable business environment for long-term trade contracts.

On the other hand, the speech's emphasis on opposing protectionism and promoting trade and investment liberalisation and facilitation, if implemented, could lower barriers for New Zealand companies entering the Chinese market, but competition may also intensify, requiring firms to continuously invest in branding and differentiation. Notably, Ding specifically mentioned promoting mutually beneficial cooperation and peaceful use of critical minerals. Although New Zealand is not a major mineral exporter, there are potential areas for cooperation in new energy technology and sustainable development; relevant technology and service companies should monitor subsequent policy developments.

Overall, China's firm stance on global supply chain stability provides an important political foundation for China-New Zealand economic and trade cooperation, but enterprises still need to closely track the implementation of specific policies to seize market opportunities.

Summary in Chinese |

Commentary in Chinese |
